Co-organisation of Progress in Organic and Macromolecular Compounds (MACRO 2025) Iași

The BioMat4CAST project team has been part of team for the 30th edition of the International Conference Progress in Organic and Macromolecular Compounds (MACRO Iași 2025) held between 23–26 September 2025 in Iași, organized by the “Petru Poni” Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry. This traditional scientific event is dedicated to polymer and organic chemists and physicists from academia, research institutes, and industry, serving as a dynamic platform for the dissemination of research results, exchange of ideas, and promotion of interdisciplinary collaborations.
The scientific program of MACRO Iași 2025 cover a broad range of topics, including organic and polymer synthesis and physics, multifunctional polymeric architectures, advanced engineering of polymeric materials, and their applications in diverse fields. In addition, on 23 September 2025, the specialized workshop “Polysaccharide Based (Bio)Hybrid Nanostructures” have been organized, addressing recent progress in hybrid biomaterials.
A highlight of the conference was the participation of distinguished invited speakers, who presented cutting-edge research at the frontier of organic and macromolecular science. Prof. Brigitte Voit (Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research, Dresden, Germany) discussed responsive polymeric nanocapsules and multi-compartments as cellular mimics, while Prof. Marius Andruh (C. D. Nenitzescu Institute of Organic and Supramolecular Chemistry of the Romanian Academy, Bucharest, Romania) presented results on magnetic and luminescent molecular materials constructed from lanthanides. Advances in polymer synthesis were addressed by Prof. Remzi Becer (University of Warwick, UK) in his lecture Precision in polymer synthesis: From sustainable polymers to bioactive glycopolymers.
Prof. Cristian Silvestru (Babeş-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania) focused on the structure and reactivity of heavy organopnictogens, from CO₂ fixation to C–H bond activation, whereas Prof. Theoni Georgiou (Department of Materials, Imperial College London, UK) analyzed the effect of monomer sequence, composition and molar mass on the self-assembly and gelation of thermoresponsive copolymers. The session also included Prof. Michele Laus (University of Eastern Piedmont, Alessandria, Italy), who provided new insights into the “grafting to” mechanism, and Prof. Agnieszka Kowalczuk (Center of Polymer and Carbon Materials Sciences, Zabrze, Poland), who spoke about new pathways for functional nanomaterials, from linear to star-shaped polymers.
In addition, Prof. Ion Tiginyanu (Moldova Academy of Science, Republic of Moldova) presented emerging functional hybrid nanomaterials based on Gallium Nitride and Aerogalnite, while Dr. Aurel Radulescu (Jülich Centre for Neutron Science, Germany) highlighted polymer membranes for energy applications characterized by neutron scattering techniques. Together, these lectures showcased the diversity and excellence of current research in the field.
Through its comprehensive program and the presence of internationally recognized researchers, MACRO Iași 2025 reconfirms its role as one of the most important scientific meetings in the field of organic and macromolecular compounds in Eastern Europe.
From the BioMat4CAST team two invited lecture have been performed and three articles have been published in the Conference Proceedings Book.

Co-organization for PolyChar World Forum on Advanced Materials 30th Edition

The 30th edition of the PolyChar World Forum on Advanced Materials took place from September 11 to 13, 2024, at the Petru Poni Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry in Iași, Romania. Established in 1992, PolyChar is a prominent international conference covering polymer characterization and diverse material science fields, including nanomaterials, biomaterials, and sustainability. The event featured sessions for early-career researchers and a broad scientific program. The conference was supported by numerous organizers, speakers, and sponsors, ensuring its successful organization. Created by Witold Brostow, Michael Hess and Kevin P. Menard and first organized in 1992 at the University of North Texas, Denton (TX) (U.S.A.), PolyChar is focused on giving researchers from academia and industry the opportunity to present their work to a large international audience, to meet prominent scientists, and to attend tutorials held by worldwide recognized experts. The 30th Edition was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Petru Poni Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry
The BioMat4CAST team was co-organisator of the event and hosted also a special BioMat4CAST session: From Molecules to Complex Systems with Multiscale Modelling within the framework of the PolyChar World Forum on Advanced Materials - PolyChar 30 event organize in IntelCentre ICMPP.

Macro2023 - Progresses in Organic and Macromolecular Compounds 29thEdition

The 29th edition of the International Conference Progress in Organic and Macromolecular Compounds (MACRO Iași 2023) took place between 4 and 6 October 2023 at the Petru Poni Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry in Iași, Romania. This traditional scientific event brought together polymer and organic chemists, as well as physicists from academia, research institutes, and industry, providing a dynamic platform for the presentation and discussion of cutting-edge research. The scientific program offered a comprehensive overview of current trends and challenges in the field, covering organic and polymer synthesis, polymer physics, multifunctional polymeric architectures, engineering of polymeric materials, nanocomposites, hybrid materials, polymer networks, smart polymeric materials, polymeric membranes, polymer-based electronics, biologically inspired nanostructures, drug carriers, and biopolymers. These topics highlighted both fundamental research and practical applications, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange among participants from Romania and abroad.
The conference featured numerous distinguished invited speakers, who shared their expertise through lectures on highly specialized topics. Alexander Bismarck (Vienna University, Austria) presented Turning liquids solid: From emulsions to micromixers, while Rénato Froidevaux (University of Lille, France) discussed Hybrid catalysis: A powerful synergy between chemical and biological catalysis. Aatto Laaksonen (the BioMat4CAST ERA Chair ICMPP, Iași, Romania, Stockholm University, Sweden;) gave a lecture on In silico studies of nature’s hierarchical creation, and Anne Ladegaard Skov (DTU, Copenhagen, Denmark) presented Artificial muscles from bundles of silicone-based dielectric elastomer fibers. Piotr Rychter (Jan Dlugosz University, Poland) addressed Environmental aspects of polymers and polymer wastes, Olya Stoilova (IP-BAS, Sofia, Bulgaria) spoke on Advanced electrospun materials: From design to prospective applications, and Daniel B. Werz (Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, Germany) shared insights on Fluorescent dyes by rational design and serendipitous discoveries.
The BioMat4CAST team actively contributed to the organization of MACRO Iași 2023, working closely with the Petru Poni Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry. Through their involvement, the team supported the dissemination of scientific results, promoted international networking, and enhanced the visibility of innovative research in polymer and organic chemistry, demonstrating their commitment to fostering high-quality scientific exchange and strengthening connections between national and international research communities.
