BioMat4CAST Communication Events

This section highlights the communication events organized within the BioMat4CAST project, aimed at engaging a non-specialist audience, raising awareness of the project’s objectives and societal relevance, and inspiring younger generations to pursue careers in science and research. Special attention was given to presenting concepts such as artificial intelligence and computational approaches in an accessible manner, making them easier to understand and more appealing for the general public.

05.07.2024 Romania Secondary Education Project (ROSE) visit to BioMat4CAST Team

The BioMat4CAST team hosted a group of senior high school students to introduce them to the fundamentals of computational chemistry. The aim of this presentation was to acquaint these prospective college students with the diverse career opportunities available in the field of computational chemistry. The students present were part of the Romania Secondary Education Project (ROSE), a unique and comprehensive initiative aimed at improving the transition from high school to university and increasing first-year retention rates in the institutions funded under the project. The students asked insightful and thought-provoking questions, demonstrating their keen interest and curiosity. They were highly impressed by the real-world applications and innovative research in computational chemistry, inspiring many to consider future careers in this exciting field

27.09.2024 in the European Researchers’ Night 2024 event

The BioMat4CAST team participated on Friday, September 27, 2024, in the European Researchers’ Night 2024 event, held in Iași on Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Pedestrian Street. The team was enthusiastically represented by Narcis Ciubotariu, Razvan Puf, Maria Cristina Al-Matarneh, Rafaela Paula Vrabie, Alina Ipate, and Mihaela Balan Porcarașu. As always, the interactive scientific experiments presented excited and engaged both children and adults, bringing them into the fascinating world of chemistry!

11.02.2025 IUPAC Global Women’s Breakfast (GWB): Accelerating Equity in Science - gender related event

The IUPAC Global Women’s Breakfast (GWB) is a unique and inspiring event which happens on a single day each year. The goal is to bring together people of all genders from all science disciplines and from all science organizations from academia to industry to government to participate building a network in support of closing the Gender Gap in Science. One of the great things about the GWB is that each event is organized to meet the needs of the local community. Some groups have been organizing GWB events for multiple years. Others are joining the GWB for the first time. This guide has been developed as a resource for organizers to make it easier for you to register, plan, execute and maximize the impact of your GWB event. In conjunction with the U.N. International Day of Women and Girls in Science and in support of SDGs 5 and 10, the purpose of the GWB is to establish and empower a global network to overcome barriers to gender equality in science.

In 2025, the GWB was an official event for the International Year of Quantum and Science Technology celebration.

Both Dr. Teodora Rusu the BioMat4CAST Coordinator and dr. Mariana Pinteala the BioMat4CAST Scientific Manager had made presentation to the 2026 GWB and alll the BioMat4CAST team participate in the on-line event.

09.04.2025 Green Week at the “Petru Poni” Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry

On April 9, as part of the Green Week event, Narcis Ciubotariu, Petru Tarnovan members BioMat4CAST team welcomed 10th and 11th grade students from the “Costache Negruzzi” National College of Iași, accompanied by their teachers.

The students had the opportunity to visit several research facilities, including laboratories of computational chemistry of BioMat4CAST project, electrochemistry, organic chemistry, mass spectrometry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).

15.05.2025 The 3rd FemCOSYVirtual Meeting - gender related event

The 3rd FemCOSY Virtual Meeting focused on presenting the initial findings from the gender imbalance survey, discussing the potential need for an additional survey, and planning a scientific publication on the topic. This event will feature insightful lectures from invited speakers and a discussion panel aimed at promoting gender balance initiatives in the scientific community.

The distinguished speakers were: Marinella Striccoli (CNR); Ana Belén Muñoz García (University of Naples Federico II); Michele Pavone (University of Naples Federico II) Eva Klimešová (Eli Beamlines); Marcel Mudrich (Aarhus University); Alkwin Slenczka (University of Regensburg) During the Round Table the speakers focused topics like: How was your career affected by the COVID-19 period/diseases period? Do you see any difference between men and women promotion following the pandemic?; What is the effect of the parental leave at your institution? ; How can we encourage and support young girls and women to pursue and persist in scientific fields? In your institute or/and in the group you lead are there any initiatives in this direction?; etc.
